DIAMOND CHECKER PLATE CHEVRONS

Retrofit your own micro prismatic chevrons
NFPA-1901 & ULC S1515-13 compliant
Easy to install!!

Easy to install!!

Is your department still debating whether to up-grade your present apparatus to the new standards?

Please consider

  • Increased visibility means increased SAFETY, especially when “worst-case” interventions take place: on roads with high speed traffic; at night; around bends; and above all, when the weather is poor.
  • You have already added strobes & maybe expensive flashing arrows. You deploy cones and road torches and you are still apprehensive of oncoming drivers??? Why? Because you KNOW they often don’t see you, sometimes for no other reason than being completely distracted.
  • Give drivers an “extra long-distance” warning by installing micro prismatic chevrons and reduce your chances of being hit!
  • “Unmarked” checker plate is the least visible of any rear finish and is basically invisible to oncoming traffic.
  • Chevrons are the most cost-efficient method to significantly increase your visibility.
  • Do you say “I’ll put it in next years’ budget” without knowing the actual cost to your budget?
  • Ask Securitrim for a free quote, broken down by apparatus. Just send us rear photos and approximate dimensions. Volume rebates when you RETROFIT four or more apparatus!
  • It can cost as low as $300 for chevrons when retrofitting an apparatus.
  • Maybe you can “sneak in” a truck or two on the money you have leftover in this budget? Or maybe in the “mechanical” budget, or the “new safety feature” budget? You know how to swing things to at least get your first response vehicle or your blocker safer with chevrons.

FAQ's:

  1. Why are CHEK.R.POINTS round "dots" instead of "squares" or "diamonds"?
The reflective area is comparable, but “Diamonds” have corners that are prone to hooking and subject to damage from power washers. "Squares" take longer to install because the flat edge must be perfectly lined up with the entire row and also are more difficult to center in the "check" in order to avoid "tenting" on the raised area of the plate.
  2. What products are best to produce the reflective “dots”?
Some suppliers use glass-bead reflective sheeting suffering in reflective power that cannot be compared with the new prismatic “Conspicuity” grade which is often 8X brighter over a much longer distance. This is the same product used for the 6" rolls and is always used in CHEK.R.POINTS. Reflexite is often used because it is thinner and of closed-cell construction. 3M Diamond Grade can be used but must be heat-sealed, normally raising the cost of production.
  3. Why are "CHEK.R.POINTS" not pre-masked in strips that can be installed in a complete row instead of individually?
There are several configurations and even irregularities in diamond checker plate. When several points are applied in-line together, there are invariably points that touch the raised sections of the plate and any misalignment carries over to the next points. This is not acceptable for proper adhesion. The little extra time required to apply individual CHEK.R.POINTS is definitely worth the effort.
  4. Does it take longer to install "CHEK.R.POINTS" than 6" rolls of sheeting?
The process appears longer when installing points, but one must not forget that no professional installer is required. Therefore installation costs can be lower. Consider also that to do a perfect installation of roll sheeting usually requires either very fine trimming or the lifting of hardware which requires additional time and the services of a professional installer. When installing CHEK.R.POINTS, if there is any obstacle on the plate, simply stop the row of points before the obstacle. No trimming or lifting of hardware.

Remember! Anyone can install CHEK.R.POINTS. That is why they are so cost-efficient. No “out of service” for the apparatus because you can “stagger” installation periods as available. Installation can be started and stopped at will since nothing is taped or cut. Anyone can continue the installation after a shift change or an incident. Or have a community “CHEK.R.POINTS” party on Sunday afternoon… Wives and kids are excellent installers! Just “peel and stick”.
